Marta Kostyuk is set to fall down the rankings to World No.35 down ten spots at least after having to withdraw from the 2025 WTA Stuttgart Open (Porsche Tennis Grand Prix) which carries a domino effect.
Kostyuk reached the final last year but like the other part of the line-up in Elena Rybakina won't return to Stuttgart. Albeit this due to injury. The Ukrainian picked up an injury during the Billie Jean King Cup and has decided not to play.
But it also means she won't play a stand-out tie with Mirra Andreeva in the last 32 as a lucky loser will take her place and face the Russian to open the show in Stuttgart.
"Unfortunately the injury I sustained during my last BJK Cup match will not heal in time and I won't be able to compete in Stuttgart this year," wrote Kostyuk on Instagram earlier on Monday.
"I had such an amazing time reaching the final here last year, thank you for those memories. I'm really sorry to the fans and so grateful for all your support."
"Wishing the tournament a great week and I hope to see you all next year!"
Zheng Qinwen and Ons Jabeur were the other main casualties from the field but they withdrew prior to the event and were promptly replaced in the field. It is one still led by Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and the aforementioned Andreeva.
But for Kostyuk, an unfortunate injury means she won't be defending her points from this week and as a result has work to do after dropping out of the top 32 as of next week. She has a career high of World No.16.
Last year’s finalist Marta Kostyuk has withdrawn from the WTA Stuttgart 500.
