Mirra Andreeva continues to dazzle with the Russian at the age of 17 continuing to improve and she is into a second consecutive WTA 1000 final, this time at the Indian Wells Open. As ever given her age, Andreeva gets a lot of comparisons to great players.

Among those are Monica Seles, Martina Hingis who were both teen prodigies and Andreeva pointed out that it is almost impossible to be either and that she doesn't pay attention to comparisons. She said that tennis has changed a lot so to even think of herself in the same breath isn't wise.

"Yes, of course I know that Monica Seles and Martina Hingis, they won a lot of tournaments and a lot of titles while they were still teenagers," Andreeva said in response to questioning about the greats on Friday.

"Of course I know that they have been playing great, and, you know, I try to kind of, I don't know, be at the same level, but tennis has changed a lot, and now I cannot imagine me winning eight slams at 17 years old. It's impossible."

The main one though perhaps is a certain Maria Sharapova. She has had to brush aside comparisons before including at Wimbledon and after mirroring wins from 2005 to 2025, they reared their head again but she is trying to blaze her own trail over anybody elses.

"Of course I know what's been going on, and about Maria and Serena. I have watched them play a lot, so I also know that they won a lot of titles and a lot of tournaments while being very young," she added. "I know what they have done. Okay, good for them. But I try not to think about them and try to focus on what to do with my career."
