Serena
Williams shared a message with her fans, stating that she doesn't enjoy
training with the goal of competing.
It's been
over a year since
Serena Williams retired in the third round of the US Open,
where she lost to the Australian Alja Tomljanovic, amid the excitement of the
Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows.
Throughout
her career, Williams won an impressive total of 23 Grand Slam titles: seven at
the Australian Open, three at Roland Garros, seven at Wimbledon, and six at the
US Open.
Additionally,
she secured 14 Grand Slam titles in doubles, all alongside her sister Venus
Williams, and two mixed doubles titles, both with Belarusian player Max Mirny
in 1998.
The former
world No. 1 took to her social media to share a message about working out
without the goal of competing, and she received responses from her husband and
many of her fans:
“I’m not
used to working out with no goal or to be honest - no championship in my mind.
This is super weird,” Williams wrote.
“So… you
wanna go back on tour?” respond her husband Alexis Ohanian.
Following the tweets shared by Serena Williams and her husband, some fans have speculated about the possible return of the American legend to the tennis courts:
“Think of
the championship as a really long life with high vitality & health-span,
that let’s you meet your great grandkids! Ultimate championship if you ask me”
“To be
honest this is a great msg to younger athletes. Every practice should have plan
and purpose. The overall training should have a goal on annual basis and of
course long term vision. Thank you
#Serena,”
Always
having a goal in mind is only one way to live your life. No need to abandon
that entirely, but I encourage you to explore other ways of being. There is
incredible freedom and creativity in letting your mind wander, unexpected
discovery, and the power of serendipity.
