"No longer the domain of Serena Williams" says Garbine Muguruza on WTA circuit

The WTA has been dominated by Serena Williams for a long time but times have changed now according to Muguruza.

Serena Williams is one of the most dominant tennis players in history with the American being the best player on the WTA for the better part of her playing career. She has not dominated in a while now as she racked up the years and that is why Muguruza was prompted to say that the women's circuit is not Serena's domain anymore.

She is not wrong with her exact quote being:

“It’s tough, there is a lot of competition, each tournament is a little bit that you never know who is going to win. If I am good with myself, I think I am a very difficult opponent to beat, but [even when I am] feeling good I have also lost because the others also play very well. There is more competition than ever."

Muguruza further said:

“There is no longer the domain of Serena [Williams] or something like that, now it is like each tournament that plays the best that week is going to take it away. Because I also don’t see that anyone is regularly winning titles. Out of thirty tournaments this year, almost all of them are different champions.”

The parity in tennis is something the ATP will experience once the big three fully retire as well and many ATP players have talked about it. For Muguruza the goal is simple, continue building on her ATP Finals triumph with her sights set on grand slam trophies.
