Paula Badosa pulled out of her clash with Alexandra Eala on Monday citing a chronic back problem which flared up at Merida Open Akron and saw her miss Indian Wells. She returned at the Miami Open but had instances where it would look like she would retire and she did withdraw.
Badosa now though will not play for the foreseeable future in a bid likely to get herself ready for the clay court season. The Spaniard has withdrawn from the Credit One Charleston Open which takes place next week and said she has had to withdraw from all upcoming tournaments.
She said she is stepping away for the whole of the recovery process meaning tennis fans might not see the comeback player of the year until the earliest the clay court season after she has done such work to fight back from what looked like a potential career ending injury.
"Hello everyone, as you know I had to withdraw from Miami and the upcoming tournaments. It's very sad and tough to deal with the pain and especially stopping and coming back every single time. Now it's time to go through recovery process again. Hopefully I will be back soon," said Badosa on Instagram.
"Well, it was a stress fracture in my L4 and L5 that wasn’t recovering, and then the facet joints also like they were inflamed all the time so every time I was doing exercises, I had to stop because it wasn’t responding well," she explained during the Australian Open earlier this year on her initial injury which has flared up again.
"When I thought about stopping was when I was doing the injections because they told me I had to do max three a year, and I was already in my second one, and it was the fourth month of the year, so I was quite playing in the limit with that."
