Aryna Sabalenka, the recent Miami Open champion, experienced an unusual situation when she went to a restaurant with her boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis, and members of her team to celebrate her title. However, they faced an uncomfortable moment when an upset man demanded they leave the table they were dining at.
It was all smiles for Sabalenka, who claimed her second title of the year and put behind her two consecutive final losses at the Australian Open and Indian Wells. The Belarusian secured her 8th WTA 1000 title after defeating home favourite Jessica Pegula, winning in Miami for the first time.
Always known for her close bond with her team, the Belarusian went out for dinner in Miami before heading back to Europe. However, the celebration was interrupted when a man at the restaurant tried to ‘kick them out’ of the table, according to a video shared by the “Sabanewsss” X account.
"Guys, I’m not trying to be rude. This table… There are other people waiting for it, and we were here first," the visibly annoyed man is heard saying towards Sabalenka’s table.
"That is too bad, I guess," replied Jason Stacy, a member of Sabalenka’s team.
"Do you realise who you’re talking to?" asked Georgios Frangulis, Sabalenka’s businessman boyfriend. "Do you know who this is? Do you know that she’s like the queen of Miami?"
"Number one tennis player of the year," added Stacy, while Sabalenka, with an awkward smile, responded to the man.
"I don’t care who it is, I’m just saying I also have a table. I’m just asking if you guys can speed it up!" he continued. "I know the owner! And he can come out and get this table."
The man was approached by a restaurant employee, who asked what was going on. "These people need to wrap it up! I’ve been waiting for this specific table," he responded, clearly frustrated.
World No. 1 Sabalenka, who had avoided making comments throughout the altercation, made a joke at the end: "Have a snack, bro," she said, offering him a plate of food as he walked away.
It was an awkward moment for the three-time Grand Slam champion, who is now preparing for her next challenge at the WTA 500 Stuttgart Open—a tournament that will feature eight top-10 players, led by Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.
