A couple of seeds had easy victories at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells with Karolina Pliskova and Amanda Anisimova winning in straight sets.
Karolina Pliskova is back on the courts and the Czech player is continuing her great season with another easy win. The Czech player has been performing very well on North American hard courts for years and today she put in another great effort against the feisty Frech. The Polish player put in a good effort taking an early lead in the match that almost won her the first set.
Pliskova was able to come back and ultimately win the first set with 7-5 mainly thanks to Frech who tightened up a bit in the key moments. The Polish player never found her excellent level from the start again and Pliskova cruised to a 6-2 2nd set victory. A good start for Pliskova who took 81 minutes to move on to R3.
Joining her in R3 will be native Amanda Anisimova who is putting forward solid performances as of late. Her problem is that she can't string together 3 or 4 great matches to achieve a meaningful result. Today was a good performance against the tricky Giorgi who on her day can be unplayable. Today was not her day and the Italian almost beat herself with her rhythm being completely off.
Ever since winning her maiden WTA 1000 trophy, Giorgi failed to replicate that form losing 3 matches rather easily. Today was too erratic from her and Anisimova was able to use that. She won a close first set with 7-5 where she didn't shine brightly as well but that got better in the 2nd set which she won with 6-2. A bit worse than Pliskova with 84 minutes needed but she won't mind.
