The 2024
WTA
Transylvania Open will take place from February 5th to 11th in Cluj-Napoca.
The Romanian tournament has shifted its schedule compared to previous years
when it was held in the European autumn.
Players
will compete for the 250 points awarded to the champion and a cash prize of
$35,250 from a total purse of $267,082. The main draw is led by former world
No. 1
Karolina Pliskova, and other notable players include
Alycia Parks,
Tatjana Maria, and
Anna Blinkova.
The
Transylvania Open proves to be an appealing destination for several players,
having been voted the best WTA 250 tournament of the year by players in the
last two seasons. The event is closely tied to the vibrant cultural scene and
historical monuments of the region in Romania.
With a main
draw of 32 players, Tatjana Maria, the 37-year-old German, rising Italian star
Elisabetta Cocciareto, and the 2022 champion Anna Blinkova will join Pliskova.
The top-ranked Romanian representative will be world No. 65 Ana Bogdan,
followed by world No. 80 Jaqueline Cristian.
The total
prize money sees a 3% increase from 2023, with a champion earning $35,250 and
the runner-up receiving $20,830. Semifinalists will take home $11,610, and
quarterfinalists will earn $6,608.
