Emma
Raducanu shared her new hobby while recovering from her injury.
At 20 years
old, the young star has faced injuries several times and is currently
recuperating from surgeries on both her wrists and one of her ankles, which
will keep her away from the courts for a while.
Her last
competition was at the Stuttgart Open, where she fell in the first round to
Jelena Ostapenko. Her most recent victory was on March 13th in Indian Wells
against Beatriz Haddad Maia.
In the
midst of her recovery process, Raducanu has already been hitting balls and
engaging in physical training, albeit in a gentle manner, as she continues to
prepare for her return to competition.
Recently,
she traveled to the Chinese city of Shenyang, where her mother was born, and
has now taken up some new hobbies.
“I recently
learned Mahjong and feel most at home and my true self when I’m around the
kitchen table at my grandma or aunt’s place in Shenyang playing with family.”
“They
include Mahjong, piano, reading, learning new cultures and languages,
motorsport, driving and diving.”
“On a day
off, I like to practice some piano… I just started to learn and have a long way
to go but I really love the melodies once you get it.
“Also
having picked up Mahjong and now enjoy playing with whoever I can find. And I
just love driving.”
The British
tennis player will likely return to competition next year in search of better
results. Since her incredible victory at the 2021 US Open, where she defeated
Leylah Fernandez in the final, Raducanu has not won any titles and has also not
achieved good results, which is contrary to what was expected after her triumph
at Flushing Meadows.
That year,
he reached world No. 10 and became perhaps the great promise of his generation,
several months before Iga Swiatek became world No. 1. We'll have to wait to see
the level he exhibits when he returns to the courts.
