Rogers keeps hot streak going with victory over Anisimova, advances to San Jose semifinals

American Shelby Rogers continued her dominant performance at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic on Friday night, defeating compatriot Amanda Anisimova to reach the semifinals.

The World No.45 looked superb in her 6-4 6-4 victory, relying on her exceptional serve to stay out of trouble. Rogers hit five aces and won 32 out of 36 points behind her first serve, looking every bit as confident as she has been this week.

Rogers did not face a break point in the opening set, but applied relentless pressure to her opponent before breaking her at the seventh time of asking. The sole break was enough for the 29-year old to clinch the first set, and move one step closer to the semifinals.

The second set saw Rogers finally lose serve for the first time during this tournament, but the former World No.36 broke her opponent twice to level the score and serve out the match after an hour and 21 minutes.

Rogers improves to 3-0 in career meetings against Anisimova, and is scheduled to face ninth seed Veronika Kudermetova for a spot in the final.
