The opener to the Sunshine Double is here as the 2025 Indian Wells Open will begin on Wednesday 5 March in Tennis Paradise. The schedule is now set with our Day One Preview looking at some of the main talking points.
The main seeded players will not begin their quest until Friday. So the likes of Alcaraz, Zverev, Swiatek, Sabalenka and co are getting their opponents set during these opening two days.
But there are still noteworthy matches to take you through in this first schedule. It is mainly WTA which takes Centre Stage on Day One.
Osaka, Kvitova and Opelka headline acts
Petra Kvitova made her return recently at ATX Open Austin albeit losing quite comfortably to Jodie Burrage. Albeit the revival was not expected over night and she will know herself that it will be rocky before it gets comfortable or not.
She faces Varvara Gracheva in her opening match after receiving a wildcard into the tournament in Indian Wells. She is also due to play Miami, the site of her last great success before she went off to become a mother.
The winner of this opening clash sits in the section that Naomi Osaka does too and they will face Mirra Andreeva in this case whoever gets through so it doesn't get easier. They open Day One with Kei Nishikori who started the year losing a final in Auckland in superb fashion. He faces Jaume Munar. Followed by a clash between Peyton Stearns and Magda Linette on the second court.
If Stearns wins, it could herald an all American battle as Jessica Pegula is set up for the victor in the second round. They sit in the Jelena Ostapenko, Danielle Collins and Elina Svitolina section. A mixed bag of results so far this year for those players so Stearns who will have to topple Pegula who won Austin last week could see it as a big chance.
Victoria Azarenka faces Clervie Ngounoue with the qualifiers now put into place. The winner of that tie faces an out of form Zheng Qinwen who has barely won a match all year so could be a good tie for Azarenka.
Over on the Main Stadium, Reilly Opelka opens up his campaign. He faces off against Roman Safiullin with the winner facing Tommy Paul. Then it is the turn of Naomi Osaka.
She will face Camila Osorio for the second time in her career. The first came in success for Osaka back at the 2022 Australian Open. They sit very similar in the rankings currently as statistics portray so it could be a quality tie and one of the best of the day.

Opponents set for Zverev and Swiatek
Then it is the turn of Alexander Bublik. He faces Yosuke Watanuki to end the day. There are further stories elsewhere with Caroline Garcia facing Bernarda Pera.
The winner faces Iga Swiatek who sits in that horror section with Karolina Muchova and Ons Jabeur and potentially later down the line Jelena Ostapenko. Tallon Griekspoor off a great week in Dubai faces Miomir Kecmanovic. The winner faces Alexander Zverev.
As well as Flavio Cobolli, Marcos Giron, Zhizhen Zhang and also Corentin Moutet v Jordan Thompson among the leading attractions on Day One.
