Destanee Aiava voiced her frustration on social media regarding anti-doping testing methods following her defeat to Danielle Collins at the Australian Open. The world No. 195 had a memorable run in the tournament, advancing through the qualifiers and claiming her first Grand Slam main-draw victory by defeating Greet Minnen in the opening round.

In the second round, Aiava faced the 10th seed, Danielle Collins. Despite putting up a strong fight and forcing a third set, she ultimately fell 6-7, 6-4, 2-6. The match ended with controversy as Collins celebrated in a way that appeared to provoke the crowd, drawing boos on the Show Court Arena.

Beyond her solid tennis performance, Aiava displayed plenty of personality on the court, signalling her arrival on the tour. Shortly after her loss, the Australian player took to social media to criticise the anti-doping testing system, revealing she had to undergo a test after the match.

“Someone needs to find a less invasive way to test us for drugs, and idk why I’m being tested. I’m literally 300 in the world; the only thing I’ll be tested positive for is mental illness,” Aiava posted.

Aiava’s complaints add to ongoing concerns voiced by players about the current anti-doping system and its random testing protocol. Recently, players like Casper Ruud and Alexander Bublik have spoken out on the matter, while Jenson Brooksby and Mikael Ymer faced suspensions for missing three tests within a year.

When a fan asked Aiava how the testing process works, she responded: “They grab you whenever they want, and they have to watch you pspspsps. The lady I had was really lovely, and it was quick.”
