Russia’s young tennis sensation
Mirra Andreeva has opened up
about spending time with family. The 18-year-old is already regarded as the one
for the future and has put in some impressive performances this season,
including a title-winning campaign at Indian Wells, where she defeated the
reigning world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final with a score of 2-6,
6-4, 6-3.
Andreeva is currently taking part in the
Madrid Open, where
she booked her place in the quarterfinal after beating Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva
in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4. She will now face America’s Coco
Gauff in the quarterfinals of the event. The one-time Grand Slam winner
defeated Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in straight sets with a score of 6-4,
6-2. It will be the third meeting between the two players. In the previous two
meetings, Gauff has had a clear edge, winning on both occasions.
Their most
recent meeting came in the second round of the US Open in 2023, where Gauff won
in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Andreeva has recently spoken with Caroline Garcia in the Tennis Insider Club, where she opened up about travelling with her family. The youngster stated that she likes travelling with her parents, but at times, she feels like she wants some time alone as well.
"I'm always trying to travel with my dad or with my mum
because when I come home from the practice, or the matches, it's nice to be at
home, just spend some time with family," she said. "To talk about
something but not tennis. So, 'I don't know what's up with our grandparents,'
She woud tell me some stuff, then we can call our family and talk to them
together. But also, as you said there are ups and downs, sometimes I wish,
'Man, I want to have some time alone,' and sometimes, you know, she keeps
trying to talk to me and I'm tired. And I force myself sometimes to answer and
also to talk. But I just know that it's nice to have her close to me, and it's
better that she would travel with me and spend some time together if I would be
alone."
