America’s
Coco Gauff made hilarious remarks after seeing Christopher
Eubanks during the off-season. The 20-year-old is already regarded as one of
the best players currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles category, along with the likes of Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka and Poland’s Iga Swiatek.
Gauff, in a post on her official account on the social media platform Instagram, made a hilarious comment after seeing fellow American Eubanks during
the off-season. "Spotted a giraffe in my backyard @chris_eubanks96,” she wrote.
Gauff's impressive season ended on a high in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The world number three lifted the WTA Finals title after beating China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6. Overall, she played 71 matches in 2024, winning 54 and losing 17.
Her title in Riyadh was the third in the year. Before that, Gauff
won the China Open after beating Karolina Muchova in the final in straight sets
with a score of 6-1, 6-3. She also lifted the ASB Classic event in Auckland in January
after beating Elina Svitolina in the final with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Interestingly, Gauff did not win an event between January
and September. During that phase, she played in five semifinals and went on to
lose in each one of them. Gauff’s Grand Slam season was far from what she was
expecting as well. Her best performances in mega-events came in the Australian and French Open, where she was knocked out after losing in the semifinals. In
Melbourne, she lost to reigning world number one Sabalenka in the last-four
contest in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. At the Roland Garros, she
lost in the semifinal to world number two Swiatek in straight sets with a score
of 6-2, 6-4.
