Bianca Andreescu knows a thing or two about being young and successful and the Canadian shared some advice for young players aspiring to become great.
Andreescu was only 19 when she won the US Open by defeating Serena Williams no less and while Andreescu is yet to win another major she is a terrific tennis player when healthy. Health has been a huge issue for the Canadian but she is slowly getting there and will be a force to be reckoned with down the line. Ahead of the Indian Wells event where she is the defending champion she shared some tips for young players:
“Don’t let it go too much to your head. Stay confident, obviously, but don’t become stuck up. Stay humble, remain grateful and continue to work hard because as everyone says, it’s easy to get to the top. But staying at the top, that’s the hardest part.”
Andreescu has struggled to live up to her 2019 form mainly due to injuries but the Canadian admitted that mentally she was doing things the wrong way:
“The main thing this year for me was to stop looking in the past because that’s what I was doing a lot and that’s what was ruining me. I would always say, ‘Oh I want to play like I did back in 2019. Why am I not playing like I used to?’ But I had to switch that mindset and start focusing on the present moment, because the past is the past.”
It remains to be seen whether it will work for Andreescu who enjoys playing in Indian Wells as the conditions really suit her game style.
