The tennis world has been set on notice as Mirra Andreeva continues making waves, with the rising Russian star adding another accomplishment to her resume after winning the 2025 Indian Wells title.
The 17-year old rallied from a set down to defeat World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final at Tennis Paradise, displaying grit and poise as she won the biggest title of her career. Andreeva was coming in off a title run in Dubai two weeks ago, with her latest victory seeing her capture two consecutive WTA 1000 titles.
Andreeva's route to the final saw her defeat several Grand Slam champions, with the Russian taking down former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and reigning French Open champion Iga Swiatek before conquering two-time Australian Open champion Sabalenka. On the latest episode of the Nothing Major podcast, retired American tennis pro Steve Johnson was asked if Andreeva was the best player in the world at the moment.
"In the last month it’s hard to argue that,” said Johnson. “She has won two massive titles, she is 17-years-old, and then she takes down Swiatek and Sabalenka, number one and two in the world, back-to-back. That is tricky to do.
"To back up a win like that with another win and especially in another big final. It’s crazy to think of a 17-year-old, how composed and good she is at tennis."
Andreeva is currently coached by former WTA star Conchita Martinez. The Russian prodigy sits at a career-high ranking of World No.6, and is also third in the race to the WTA Finals.
