Peng Shuai has not been in the news for a while now as the Chinese tennis player has completely disappeared from social media following her accusing a top-ranked official in China of sexual assault.
In response to the whole situation, the WTA pulled it's all its events from the country which was fiercely criticized in China as a political move. Tennis players across the board have supported the decision with prominent figures like Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic speaking in favour of it. The ATP did not pull its event from the county which caused a backlash against them.
Naomi Osaka was asked about the situation and she praised the WTA for their handling of the situation while also admitting that information is very scarce:
"I haven’t heard any news. So I’m not sure if that’s concerning or not. The WTA handled it really well and I'm really proud of them, and I think it’s a situation where we need more information, which is really hard."
Osaka also touched upon her newfound joy in tennis saying:
"I’ve been weighed down too much trying to prove myself. I just want to have fun first of all. I can’t expect myself to win every match, but I do expect myself to have fun and challenge myself. I just feel like there are situations where I previously would get upset but at this point in my life I’m here because I want to be here and because I find that it’s fun for me. I think just to be playing on Rod Laver and to have such a good streak on it is something I could be proud of and something I enjoy."
