The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Stuttgart Open, a WTA 500 clay-court tournament, began this Monday with a unique scheduling twist: the final will be played on Monday, April 21, rather than the usual Sunday. This year’s edition features top stars including Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff.
Traditionally, the Stuttgart final is held on Sunday — as was the case in 2024 when Rybakina dominated Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-2 — and in the two previous years when Swiatek took the title by defeating Sabalenka both times.
However, in 2025, the final has been moved to Monday, setting it apart from most other tournaments, which typically hold women's finals on Sunday or Saturday (especially when sharing the week with men’s draws).
The change is due to the proximity of Easter weekend and state laws in Baden-Württemberg, the German state whose capital is Stuttgart. Under local legislation, sporting events are prohibited on Good Friday (this year falling on April 18), which interrupts the tournament’s regular schedule.
These laws only apply in Baden-Württemberg, so the ATP 500 Munich Open - held the same week - will proceed normally.
In Stuttgart, the Round of 32 is expected to take place on Monday and Tuesday, followed by the Round of 16 — which includes the top four seeds — on Wednesday and Thursday. After Friday's pause, play resumes with the quarter-finals on Saturday, semi-finals on Sunday, and the final on Monday.
