Jelena Ostapenko again inflicted defeat on
Iga Swiatek as the former French Open champion beat her for the first time on clay but improved her head-to-head to 6-0 in favour at the
Stuttgart Open.
One of the most astonishing Head-to-Head records on the current tour, Swiatek just hasn't been able to get her head wrapped around the game of the Latvian and continues to get tripped up.
Every time they play the narrative is can she finally break the duck and it is yet to happen. Swiatek was lauded afterwards by the interviewer as he spoke to Ostapenko but she produced an iconic retort.
The former World No.1 was lauded as a great clay court player and that it is often a surprise when she gets beat on clay but that it was not today. Not one to shy away from the drama or a great soundbite, Ostapenko responded superbly.
She now faces Ekaterina Alexandrova for a spot in the final on Monday and could yet be driving away with a Porsche on Monday in the run up to Roland Garros.
"First of all thank you for coming, it's an amazing atmosphere as always. I really love to play here. She’s a great clay court player as well. But you know, I won French Open. So I can say the same thing about myself."
"I'm really happy with the way I was fighting. I was feeling like the balls were getting a bit slower when they were used. I'm just glad I was fighting, in the second set I didn't feel my game as much. In the third set I was like ok the second set is done. We are playing the third set from the beginning and I will fight until the end and we will see what happens but I'm really proud of myself."
