(VIDEO) "She's never winning a sportsman's award" jibes Marta Kostyuk about Aryna Sabalenka during controversial Madrid rain delay

Marta Kostyuk jibed that Aryna Sabalenka is never winning a sportsman's award after the controversy that surrounded their Madrid Open tie on Wednesday which saw Sabalenka win after trying to halt the match due to rain.

During the tie it started raining more heavily at 5-4 in the tie-break, Sabalenka complained about the rain and the umpire said to play on. Sabalenka was about to hit her second serve and stopped play.

She refused to continued due to the weather. This annoyed Kostyuk in the process because Sabalenka would get to hit a first serve when play resumes.

“How is this possible? Why is it first serve again? She stopped by herself. Nobody stopped her.”

As expected Kostyuk wasn't best pleased with Sabalenka and speaking to her team, she jibed that: "She's never winning a sportsman's award".

Sabalenka will face off against Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals after seeing off Kostyuk. It was a 7-6(3), 7-6(2) win in the end for the Belarusian.
