World No.1
Iga Swiatek is into the Quarter-Finals of the 2023
Bad Homburg Open as her quest to gain match practice on grass continues.
Swiatek took down Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-1 in the Last 16 and will now face
Anna Blinkova who saw off Leylah Fernandez in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
The key for Swiatek who notched only her eighth career win on grass came early on as Teichmann aimed to put her on the back foot.
The Swiss couldn't capitalise on three break point opportunities in the opening game and Swiatek prevailed in an 18-point game to hold serve.
Teichmann did not get another chance at a break point during the match until the last service game as is the dominance of Swiatek on display.
After fighting off these break point chances, she earned her first chance to do so three games later breaking Teichmann 3-2 with a superb tweener. She cruised for the remainder of the match and finished with 14 winners to sixteen unforced errors.
Since being broken in the opening set against Tatjana Maria, she has remained imperious over six games in four sets. Superb from Swiatek who now faces Blinkova, a Russian on the rise.
"I think it's my first grass-court quarterfinal, so pretty excited," Swiatek said on court. "For sure, today was a good day. I was happy with my performance. I felt like I had everything under control and that's great."
