The WTA has responded to several of their players joining the committee of the PTPA as the Djokovic-backed organisation prepares to become a key player in the tennis community.
Djokovic founded the organisation with Vasek Pospisil in order to advocate for all players across the globe. There are several goals that they hope to achieve but the bottom line is to negotiate better terms for players, all players. A few days ago it was announced that several prominent WTA players such as
Paula Badosa,
Ons Jabeur, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Zheng Saisai joined the PTPA as executive committee members.
Mattek-Sands said:
“We are all unequivocally committed to representing every player during this incredibly important time in the sport of tennis."
The WTA has now responded through a spokesperson:
“All decisions are made with the players and tournaments together, being equally represented. Players
are at the table where the decision-making takes place and their voice
is well represented in all decisions that the WTA makes. For any
organization to be successful, we do believe it has to be willing to
listen to its members and the various perspectives of such members that
make up the organization."
They added:
“The WTA respects the players’ thoughts
and positions and we are always willing to find a balanced decision
that’s in the best interest of the business, the organization and the
sport. The WTA prides itself in listening and problem solving
together as an organization alongside its members and it is paramount
for all of us to continue to work together, as we truly believe and have
witnessed since the inception of the WTA that we are stronger
together.”
According to reports from the UK, Wimbledon plans to consult the PTPA ahead of this year's event to hear what they have to say. Neither the ATP nor the WTA will like that.
