WTA Race to Guadalajara: Muguruza moves up as Swiatek and Osaka slide down

The Race for the WTA Finals is heating up with 4 remaining spots up for grabs and Garbine Muguruza made a huge step towards qualification.

Four players have mathematically secured spots at the WTA Finals in Guadalajara but Ashleigh Barty might elect not to play at the event making 5 spots up for grabs. Besides Barty, a place in Mexico is secure for Sabalenka, Krejcikova and Pliskova. Maria Sakkari is currently at number 5 with a high chance to qualify as well.

Garbine Muguruza moved up to 6 after a great result in Chicago and that brought her very close to qualification. She is trailing Sakkari only a few points and is only a few points ahead of Swiatek who is at number 7 so the battle will be quite fierce. Osaka is at number 8 but it's highly unlikely that she will play at the Finals even if she qualifies.

Outside looking in we have Jabeur at 9, Mertens at 10, Pavlyuchenkova at 11, Svitolina at 12 and Gauff at 13. All of them are desperately trying to secure a spot at the WTA Finals and with the Indian Wells coming up the battle will be fierce. Check out the race standings below.
