After losing to Daria Kasatkina and Coco Gauff during the Sunshine Double, Sofia Kenin quickly turned her attention to the clay and had one of her best runs in a long time at the Charleston Open.

The former Australian Open champion has been through a lot of ups and downs as has been well documented but she showed again this week that when she puts a run together, she is still formidable.

She was beaten by Jessica Pegula in the final of the Charleston Open 6-3, 7-5 and she lauded her opponent afterwards calling her a beast. But it wasn't just Pegula that got praise.

The tournament too was highly thought of by Kenin which is ran by the Navarro family with Emma Navarro of course being a top 10 player and the focal point of this week with dad Ben being the tournament director.

But it is a clay court opener which attracts a lot of top names and saw Pegula go straight from a Miami final straight into the clay which Kenin marvelled at.

"First I want to congratulate Jess on a great match. You've been playing great throughout the year, I've said in my press conference you're a freaking beast. Coming from Miami to here, congrats to you and your team. it was a great match and well deserved win," said Kenin as per Tennis Channel.

"I want to thank the Navarro family and everyone for making this tournament possible. I've absolutely enjoyed my time here, I like it so much. This tournament feels like home and I cannot wait to be back this year."

A quote that got a great reaction from the crowd in Charleston. "I want to thank my team, you guys did a great job. I think we made some great progress this week. We're just going to have to regroup and get dirty in the clay. Last but not least, I want to thank the fans. You guys are the best. Cannot wait to be back next year."
