Sasha Zverev and Lloyd Harris faced each other once again on the North American courts and once again it was the German who proved better. Similar to their Cincinnati clash a few weeks ago had some early issues against Harris. The South African served well early on and after a lapse of focus by Zverev he found himself serving for the set at 5-3. Unlike Cincinnati where he was able to close it out this time Zverev came back.
He broke him at the worst possible time for Harris and he never quite recovered from it. First he lost a very close tiebreak after some stunning play from Zverev. After that, his play eroded even more as Zverev was smelling blood. Just like in Cincinnati the German grew more confident with time and it showed on the court. Harris played a bit more conservative which did not work as Zverev played quite aggressive and it worked for him.
He blasted 15 winners to only 8 by Harris and it was enough to win the 2nd set with 6-3. Zverev attacked Harris on his 2nd serve with great success. The start of the 3rd set continued with the dominance of Zverev who quickly took a double break lead 4-1. However, Harris found a little spark and pulled one break back even pushing Zverev very hard at 4-3.
The German resisted well and won the game to take a 5-3 lead after which he was able to close out the match with 6-3. A good win for Zverev who was able to avoid major complications against a player who is capable of making your life miserable.
