Love is certainly in the air with Casper Ruud to start the week and now
Alexei Popyrin getting engaged as the off-season begins with the Aussie receiving a yes from long-time girlfriend Amy Pederick.
The couple reportedly started dating in 2019. Pederick is a professional physiotherapist so a handy person to have on the road in many ways for Popyrin. The couple often share pictures of their travels on social media.
They have known each other reportedly since childhood and were in the same math class in Dubai despite Pederick being from the UK. "We went to the class together (in Dubai), so we were in the same math class when we were eight years old and we kind of kept in touch since then,” he said to Khaleej Times.
"When we were 18 years old, she was in London and I was there for the Queens (tennis tournament) and we met up, and we have been dating ever since."
So from childhood to now being engaged to be married, a proper childhood sweetheart story for the rising Aussie. Ironically this also happened during the off season in a far flung place on holiday.
Max Purcell, Thanasi Kokkinakis among others were part of the well wishers on his Instagram account. He ends what has been a career best year. He has reached 23rd in the ATP Rankings and sealed a maiden ATP 1000 title in Canada.
He only just concluded his season last week albeit he didn't play at the Davis Cup with De Minaur brought in last minute to join Thanasi Kokkinakis in their singles side. This is despite Popyrin's form and relatively high ranking.
But he now will unwind ahead of the 2025 season with a short turnaround before he heads home to play in the Aussie Summer where he will be a focal point as the current No.2 behind De Minaur.
