Olga Sharypova accused
Alexander Zverev of mental and physical abuse during their relationship but she has not been contacted by the ATP while they are conducting an investigation into the matter.
The Russian did not press charges against Zverev with the bulk of accusations coming from an editorial piece written by noted tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg. Since then there has been a lot of talk in the media about Zverev and Sharypova with the ATP eventually announcing a formal investigation into the matter.
The news has been welcomed by Zverev who maintains his innocence and who actually called for an official investigation into the accusations. He also expressed intention to sue for defamation but it's unknown whether he went ahead with it. It's a situation that has always been denied by the athlete but which led the ATP to open a real investigation about two months ago.
Regarding this situation, which began in November 2020, the ATP confirmed its ideas through an official note with statements by CEO Massimo Calvelli: "The accusations against Sascha Zverev are very serious and we have a responsibility to investigate them thoroughly."
Despite the ATP declaring the opening of an investigation
last October 4, the federation has never contacted the woman to find out
her version of the facts about her. This was recently reported by Rothenberg who had another interview with Sharypova. It raises suspicion about the fairness of the investigation especially by excluding the presumed victim out of it.
Zverev has been thriving both on and off the court since the accusations apperead showcasing that he is not bothered by them. Whether he is truly innocent remains to be seen but the accusations don't weigh on him so far.
