Four-time
Grand Slam champion
Carlos Alcaraz will kick off his season at the Australian
Open, aiming to secure the only Grand Slam title missing from his collection.
At just 21 years old, the Spaniard already boasts titles from the
US Open
(2022),
Wimbledon (2023, 2024), and
Roland Garros (2024).
lcaraz has
been the most successful player in Grand Slam tournaments since the decline of
the Big-3’s dominance. In 2024, he secured two majors, but Melbourne remains a
challenge. His record at the
Australian Open stands at 7-3, with his best run
coming in 2024 when he was stopped by Alexander Zverev.
Alcaraz targets Australian Open to complete career Grand Slam
Recently
honoured in his hometown of Murcia, Spain, Alcaraz was named the Region’s Best
Athlete, an award granted by the Autonomous Community and voted on by the
Sports Press Association of Murcia (APDRM).
During the
award ceremony, Alcaraz expressed gratitude to his team, led by former Roland
Garros champion
Juan Carlos Ferrero. "There’s a team behind me, and this
is also for the people who cheer me on every day," he said.
Looking
ahead, Alcaraz is determined to make 2025 even better than his successful 2024
season. "I’m a very ambitious guy, and I want more. Winning in Australia
is what I want to ‘tattoo’ on my career, even if my father doesn’t like the
idea much," he stated.
He also
shared his excitement about the upcoming season and his time at home over the
holidays. "I want people to enjoy with me. I’m starting a tough month of
training, but spending Christmas and New Year at home is wonderful and gives me
a breather," said the former World No. 1.
Alcaraz has
opted to begin his season directly at the Australian Open, joining Jannik
Sinner and Daniil Medvedev as the only top-10 players starting their 2025
campaigns in Melbourne.
