It was a rather straightforward match for Daniil Medvedev against Dan Evans as the Russian won in three sets. Despite the result Medvedev had spells during the match where the British player created a bit of tension. Early on it was easy as Medvedev took a quick lead and maintained it to win the opening set with 6-3.
Evans tried mixing up his game with slices and different things but for the most part, Medvedev was ready for it. Evans had moderate success with rushing to the next and playing volleys but even that did not work all the time. The 2nd set started with Medvedev dominating more or less.
He took an early break and had chances to go up a double break but failed to convert them. After that, he had a mini-crisis losing two games in a row giving Evans the break back. The British player made it 3-3 and looked to get the lead however he got smashed in the next game without winning a single point.
With the break in hand Medvedev closed out the set with 6-4. The final set was a very quick one lasting only 27 minutes as Medvedev and Evans played well on their serves. The Russian also broke Evans early and held the lead closing out the match with 6-3 in the final set.
