It was a sensational display from
Novak Djokovic who had no issues against Davidovich Fokina cruising to the Rome Masters quarterfinal.
The Serbian was able to overcome a bit of a slow start against Davidovich Fokina defeating him 6-2 6-1 in just over an hour of play. That victory propelled Djokovic into the Rome Masters quarterfinal. It took a few minutes for Djokovic to warm up as he lost his serve in the first game. He would pull it back immediately and he never looked back.
Once he finally found a rhythm Davidovich Fokina simply had no chance against Djokovic. The Serbian dictated the tempo well with his return and Fokina lacked the firepower to blast his way past the Serbian's defence.
The first set was won with a 4-0 run to close out the set 6-2. Fokina won fewer than 50 % of points on either of his serve and that proved too difficult to overcome for the Spaniard who is known as a capable clay courter.

The 2nd set featured even better play from Djokovic who was too solid in rallies. Fokina tried to break through but he mostly ended up committing a mistake. Once again he won fewer than 50 % of serves on either of his serves. Fokina did save four of six break points he faced but none of that mattered too much.
Djokovic had a chance to end it with 6-0 but Fokina held on to avoid the bagel. Only minutes later however it was over as Djokovic closed out the match with 6-1. An impressive showcase of form from Djokovic who steamrolled a very capable clay player.
