The Montreal-born was recently quoted in a report where he asked the tennis fans to remember that he achieved success on the court much earlier than the likes of Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
"I don't have the feeling of having missed the train," he said. "I managed to do things before Sinner, he managed others before me. He had a very good year, especially starting in Beijing, a bit like me last year. I have always had rivals and adversity. I'm focused on what I have to do and I still have the belief that I can compete with all these players."
Aliassime took part in the main draw of all four Grand Slams in 2023 but managed to qualify for the second round or beyond on just one occasion. His best outing came at the Australian Open where he was knocked out after losing the fourth-round tie to Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 7-6.
