Although Carlos Alcaraz appears to be going through a slump during the first quarter of the 2025 ATP season, renown coach Rick Macci is of the opinion the former World No.1 will soon bounce back in a big way.
The Spaniard kicked off his 2025 season with a quarterfinal loss to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open. Alcaraz followed this appearance with a title run at Rotterdam. However, the reigning Wimbledon champion has since suffered multiple unexpected losses.
After a surprise quarterfinal loss to Czech star Jiri Lehecka in Doha, Alcaraz would get shocked by rising British star Jack Draper in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters event. The El Palmar native would follow this with another disappointing loss, this time a first round exit at the hands of Belgian veteran David Goffin at the Miami Open.
Several prominent figures in the tennis community have begun wondering when the Spaniard will return to this winning ways. Nonetheless, Macci, who has coached the likes of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick, believes Alcaraz is just going through a slump, which he claims has been experienced by greats like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
"224 WINS. 60 LOSES. 17 TITLES. 4 MAJORS. 5 MASTERS 1000. YOUNGEST EVER TO WIN 3 SLAMS ON 3 DIFFERENT SURFACES. YOUNGEST EVER TO BE NUMBER ONE. I FEEL WITH HIS UNCANNY TALENT LEVEL AND OPTIONS THE 21 YEAR OLD SPANISH MAGICIAN IS JUST NOW GETTING STARTED," wrote Macci in a series of tweets.
"When you do so much at such a young age everybody expects you to win every match and dominate. You will have bad loses. You will have highs lows ups downs. Turn back the Rolex Watch to FED RAFA JOKER AND PETE at the same age Carlos is the most ELITE."
