The French Open organisers have had some bizarre court placings in recent days with queues out of the court for certain matches and that was evident before the rain for Ben Shelton v Kei Nishikori on Court 7.
A tie that stood out between one of the best current entertainers on tour vs the popular former top 10 star who is making just his second appearance of the season and won through a marathon clash earlier this week in a sudden return.
They ended up at 5-5 before the rain set in with play currently pencilled in for just after 3pm in what will be another late finish and another load of matches shifted till tomorrow. The rain has wreaked havoc all week at the French Open with outside courts being very much stop start.
But it didn't initially stop hundreds of fans trying to get into the court for Nishikori v Shelton. It has also happened elsewhere where some courts are perhaps better than the show courts in terms of line-up and local names have been preferred. As well as the stink surrounding the Night Session with no WTA match thus far.
Tonight Jannik Sinner will take centre stage on Court Philippe Chatrier with Iga Swiatek for instance somewhat relegated to playing to end the day session at the French Open today in perhaps a better clash with Naomi Osaka. Other examples similar to Shelton v Nishikori included Bianca Andreescu's return with an outside court packed to the rafters with those wanting to see the Canadian. But in the case of Shelton v Nishikori, it is perhaps an oversight from the organisers given the popularity of both. As has been evidenced with hundreds of spectators looming outside the court waiting to get in. A real indictment of poor scheduling.
