Holger Rune is hoping to end his seven-match losing streak at the ATP 500 China Open in Beijing, held from September 28 - October 8.

The Dane is ranked World No. 4 in the ATP Ranking but has had a difficult time on the Tour as of late. Over the summer, Rune lost his first-round match at the National Bank Canadian Open against Marcos Giron before retiring from his opening round at the Cincinnati Masters against Mackenzie McDonald.

The 20-year-old then faced further disappointment at the US Open, crashing out of his first-round clash against Roberto Carballes Baena in four sets. He then competed at the Davis Cup as part of Team Denmark but was forced to withdraw halfway through as his back continued to cause him pain.

After this, he shared an update with his fans saying that he was working on getting back to being healthy.

"Short update. My back has as you maybe know caused problems the past months. We tried different solutions and sometimes it seemed better but often the pain is limiting. We know what caused the problem and this is fixed so next is to get rid of the inflammation so I can play freely again," he said.

However, after a rough time on the North American swing, Rune is hoping for an improvement in results over the next few weeks. This is especially the case in light of the upcoming ATP Finals, for which he is yet to qualify. He is currently sitting in eighth place with 3055 points, almost 2000 less than the threshold of 5025 and only 45 points ahead of Taylor Fritz.

Moreover, Rune has a lot of ranking points to defend on the Asian swing, which could be difficult to do if his back starts causing him trouble again.

He will make a start at the China Open, where he is the third seed. The field is stacked with talent at this tournament, meaning the Danish player will face World No. 14 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round.
