US Open on a day dubbed by some as the worst ever on Arthur Ashe due to the one-sided nature of proceedings, so press conference chatter soon turned instead to court placing in the case of
Holger Rune.
Rune showed his frustration earlier in the tournament about being on Court Five even putting in an official complaint to the tournament to show his frustrations. But Medvedev, a former champion sees both sides.
He said he understands his frustrations, but also doesn't with those on show courts either being American, Grand Slam champions or finalists which Rune has not achieved yet. But he gave him some solace by saying that he believes that he will eventually be at the point where they will have no choice.
That being if he becomes a Grand Slam champion or continues to improve in the way that he is that court placing will become a gripe of the past.
“You always have to see it from perspective. Arthur Ashe, I think it was Tiafoe & Djokovic. That was 2 Americans playing each other, so nothing to say. Armstrong was Tsitsipas. More Grand Slam experience than Holger. 2 or 3 finals. I can understand his frustration.
"I can understand why the tournament put him there… If he continues the way he’s playing now, soon he’s only going to play on big courts. If Holger stays where he is & plays as good as he does, soon he’s gonna play more on bigger courts.”
