Despite winning the
Australian Open,
Jannik Sinner says he has a long way to go before he can think about becoming World No.1 as he returned home to Italy to revel in becoming a first time Grand Slam champion.
Speaking at a Press Conference in Rome, he said that the next step is to have the feeling of winning a Grand Slam again and that given that he is World Number Four and a long way back from the top three, the World No.1 spot currently occupied by Novak Djokovic isn't yet on his radar.
It is set to be an interesting few months with Djokovic of course not defending any points in Indian Wells and Miami due to not playing for the last two years while Carlos Alcaraz won in the Sunshine Double last year so will see his World Number Two spot more likely under threat.
“When things are going well you always want more. My thing has always been to win a Grand Slam, and now that I have achieved it I want to experience again what it feels like to achieve it. The best thing I can do is train hard again soon. There is a big difference between being top-5 and then moving to the top-3, and even more until reaching number 1. I am now fourth in the ranking, so I have a lot to do until I reach the top," said Sinner at a press conference in Rome.
