Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz has hesitantly revealed the name of
his future wife. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players
currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category.
In a video that was shared on the social media platform X — previously
known as Twitter — Alcaraz has been asked about the name of his hypothetical
wife in the future. In response to that, the reigning world number three
hesitantly stated: “Ahhh, what’s my wife’s name? I’m not sure? I will say… umm…
Maria.” Alcaraz was also asked about when he sees himself playing, to which he
responded that he expects himself to retire after the 2037 Wimbledon. “It’s
2024, I’m 21, 2037? Maybe 2034 or 2035,” he said. “No I’ll change it. 2037! Yes
that’s the last one. Wimbledon.”
Alcaraz had an impressive season, winning two out of four
Grand Slams. He first lifted the French Open after beating Germany’s Alexander
Zverev in a five-set thriller with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2. He then
lifted the Wimbledon title after beating former world number one Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
Alcaraz also won a silver medal for his country in the Paris
Olympics. He lost in straight sets to Djokovic in the final of the singles
category event with a score of 7-6, 7-6. Alcaraz’s season ended on a rather
disappointing note. His final appearance was in the ATP Finals in Turin where
he was knocked from the first round after losing two out of three matches. He
lost to Norway’s Casper Ruud in the first match in straight sets with a score
of 6-1, 7-5. He then lost to Zverev in the third match in straight sets with a
score of 7-6, 6-4. His last title this year was the China Open where he defeated
reigning world number one Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the final with a score of
6-7, 6-4, 7-6.
