After a third Grand Slam final loss and the latest aside from Wimbledon to be completed by Alexander Zverev, it is yet another final defeat. He fell to Carlos Alcaraz last year and Dominic Thiem in 2020 at Roland Garros and the US Open. Now it is the Australian Open.

As expected as he was defeated by Jannik Sinner, he was dejected and simply said that he is not good enough and that is the simple matter of fact. He lost 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in a match where he merely couldn't carve out a break chance against the World No.1.

He managed to pick his pocket when he needed to and got the job done, while for Zverev it is once again so close but yet so far. The World No.2 has done everything else in the game including Masters 1000's, Olympic Gold and multiple ATP Finals titles. But he can't seem to wrestle that Grand Slam title.

Given the current state of the sport too with two players in Sinner and Alcaraz being the future, it could yet be that he never gets that chance which no doubt is a real pain for him.

"It sucks standing next to this thing and not being able to touch it. Congratulations to Jannik, you're the best player in the world by far," said Zverev.

"I was hoping I could be more competitive today, but you're just too good. You really deserve it. Congratulations to your team as well. You've done all the right things. Nobody deserves this trophy more.

"We're trying to do all the right work, I'm just not good enough. It's as simple as that.

"But I really appreciate what everybody has done over the last few years, back from my ankle injury to world No.2, to playing Grand Slam finals again. I wouldn't be here without them."
