Andy Roddick showered Novak Djokovic with praise and compared his current form to when he won his last Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open. The 24-time Grand Slam champion defeated Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals to secure his place in the semifinals, where he will face Alexander Zverev.

Djokovic faced challenging moments during the match against the Spaniard, especially after losing the first set, during which he also seemed to struggle with physical issues and had to leave the court for medical attention. Upon his return, the Serbian began to dominate and secured an impressive four-set victory.

Roddick compares Djokovic’s form to his 2023 US Open triumph

The American former world No. 1 discussed Djokovic’s form on his podcast Served with Roddick, stating that the level Djokovic has been showcasing in Melbourne surpasses what he displayed in the 2024 majors.

“I can’t wait to watch this match with Zverev. Novak is in this to win this. This is as good as he has looked in a major, and I know he made the Wimbledon final last year on one leg, but this is the best since he won the US Open in 2023.

“He is here to win this thing. If you think about the three-match loop into this: Machac, 1, 4, and 4. Machac is going to be a top 10 player at some point. Lehecka, 3, 4, and 6. Lehecka is going to be a top 10 player at some point.”

“Carlos Alcaraz is going to be a top 10 player of all time, and in four sets, Novak kind of controlled the match in terms of pacing points and stylistically in the last three sets. It was a vintage Novak performance. Bravo.”

Djokovic has now reached his 12th Australian Open semifinal, having won the title in 10 of those instances. The only time he made it to the semifinals and didn’t lift the trophy was last year, when he lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
