Nicolas Jarry expressed his joy at being able to celebrate his birthday with his wife and young son at the Rolex Shanghai Masters.
The Chilean player turns 28 years old today - Wednesday, October 11 - and made the day better with a win against Diego Schwartzman in the Round of 16 at the ATP 1000 tournament.
Jarry overcame a three-set battle against the Argentinian player at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, ultimately winning the match 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. He will go on to face either top seed Carlos Alcaraz or Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-final.

Jarry says win was a bonus in comparison to seeing family

However, the most important thing for Jarry was getting to spend time with his family on his birthday. He and his wife Laura Urrutia have two sons - Juan who was born in 2022, and Santiago who was born earlier this year.
"It’s very special for me. We’re away from my other family. It’s the third time I’ve spent it here. Usually it’s alone so it’s pretty sad," Jarry explained after his win in Shanghai, before expressing his gratitude to his wife for taking the long flights to China.
"Now I have my whole family. I’m very thankful for that.. for my wife that was able to come here with all the flights. I’m very happy to be with them. This was a bonus to win," he continued.
Jarry withdrew from his second-round match against Alexei Popyrin at the Cincinnati Open in August to travel to Chile and be present for the birth of his second child. At the time, he announced the exciting news on social media.
"Dear friends, today I had to withdraw from the Cincinnati tournament due to personal reasons, in order to take a flight to Chile and accompany my wife for the arrival of our second child," he said.
