"I've got to support Novak now. That'll be a first" - Judy Murray on her son Andy Murray's collaboration with Novak Djokovic

After news broke out that former World No.1 Andy Murray will be joining the coaches box of Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic, Judy Murray has opened up on her feelings regarding her son being on the same side as his long-time rival.

Murray retired at the 2024 Paris Olympics, ending a career that saw him capture several titles including three Grand Slam singles titles. However, the British star has quickly made a return to tennis, as it was announced he would be joining Djokovic's team in a coaching capacity ahead of the 2025 Australian Open.

Although Judy Murray initially reacted to the news of her son and Djokovic teaming up by posting a popcorn emoji on social media, she later opened up on how she really felt regarding their new working relationship.

“I’ve got to support Novak now," she began in an interview with The Herald. "That’ll be a first. I mean that in the nicest way, of course. They’re different characters. The first time I saw Novak was when they were playing in an under-12 competition in France. So, they’re part of each other’s furniture and they know each other really well on and off the court.”

Murray and Djokovic have been competing against each other since they were children, they are in fact only a few weeks apart in age. Furthermore, they have both reached the pinnacle of professional tennis, with both men being multi-time Grand Slam champions in addition to claiming the World No.1 ranking.
