World No. 1
Jannik Sinner has won the Fans’ Favourite
Singles Player award for the second year in a row. The Italian star secured
this honour after completing the best season of his career in 2024, claiming
eight titles—including two Grand Slams—and an impressive 73-6 win-loss record.
Sinner started the year with a 16-match winning streak,
culminating in his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Along the
way, he defeated 10-time champion Novak Djokovic and overcame Daniil Medvedev
in the final, rallying from two sets down to win 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
“You are the reason I love tennis” - Sinner thanks fans
The Italian maintained his momentum throughout the season,
capturing the US Open title, three Masters 1000 crowns (Miami, Cincinnati, and
Shanghai), and the ATP Finals just weeks ago. As the cherry on top, the
23-year-old led Italy to a successful Davis Cup title defence, defeating the
Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor in Málaga.
The ATP announced today that Sinner had won the award for
the second consecutive year, sharing a video of the Italian’s gratitude. “I
just want to thank all the fans around the world for voting for me,” said
Jannik Sinner. “It means so much to me because the votes are coming from all of
you. You are the reason why I love to play tennis. The support has been amazing
throughout this whole season.”
This isn’t Sinner’s first ATP accolade. In 2019, he was
named the Most Improved Player of the Year, a season in which he also claimed
the Next Gen ATP Finals title, defeating Alex de Minaur in the championship
match.
Currently enjoying his off-season, Sinner is preparing for
his return by training in Dubai. The Italian will skip tournaments leading up
to his Australian Open title defence, meaning his first official match of the
new season will take place in Melbourne in mid-January.
