The ATP gives fans an opportunity to vote for their favorite player at the end of each season, and World No.1 Jannik Sinner was announced as the recipient of this award for the second straight year.
The Italian has been embroiled in a doping scandal after testing positive for prohibited substances at Indian Wells earlier this year. Therefore, it came as no surprise when he received backlash from fan and colleagues alike, with several calling out the ATP for it's lenient treatment of the Australian Open champion.
Nonetheless, Sinner's legal troubles did not stop fans from voting him as their favorite ATP player for the second year in a row. The 23-year old was bestowed with the honor in 2023, months before his breakout season as a Grand Slam champion and World No.1.
Prior to Sinner's two victories, Roger Federer had dominated as the ATP Fan favorite. The 20-time Grand Slam champion was the recipient of the award from 2003 till 2021. With Federer retiring in 2022, it was Rafael Nadal who earned the honor in that year. Only time will tell if this is the start of another legendary run, as Sinner has shown little signs of slowing down with his accomplishments on the court and popularity among fans.
