Aslan Karatsev was once highly ranked after his Australian Open breakthrough a few years ago and he'll make another huge jump after the Madrid Open.
Karatsev is currently ranked outside of the top 100 as he had to play the qualifiers in order to take part in the event. He was able to make his way through the qualifiers and continued playing spectacular tennis taking down several good players including Medvedev. He's been playing an aggressive brand of tennis and hitting more than missing which is a good way to win matches in Madrid.
He'll contest the semi-final later today with a chance to go to his maiden ATP 1000 final and if he does he'll make a huge jump on the ATP Rankings. His improvement will already be dramatic because he's likely to return to the top 50 which would be a 50+ spots jump for him considering his ranking before the event.
If he wins tonight against Struff, that jump will be even more dramatic. His career-high ranking was number 14.
