Lloyd Harris put up a serving clinic against the 'servebot' himself Reilly Opelka besting him in four sets 6-7(6) 6-4 6-1 6-3.
Another upset at the hands of Lloyd Harris happened on Monday as the South African player took down native Reilly Opelka for a spot in the US Open quarterfinal. The first game of the match showcased that Reilly Opelka might have trouble against Lloyd Harris. He saved 6 break points in the game to win it. After that, both players served rather well but traded breaks in the set that ended in the tiebreak. Opelka did not play his best but was able to pull it out with 8-6.
The 2nd set went as expected as both served well and id not allow too many chances. Lloyd Harris was more convincing just like in the first set and he was able to win it 6-4. A break point came late in the set and it was actually a set point which he converted. Opelka's level was not as good as in the previous matches especially compared to his Toronto level.
In the 3rd set, he got completely outplayed by Harris who kind of figured out Opelka and his serving pattern. The American was not hitting aces or service winners as often as he did early and that provided chances for the South African. Opelka rushed to the net quite often in frustration but most of the time he would lose the point. The 3rd set ended with 6-1 for Harris who was cruising.
The final set opened with another early break for Harris who was simply playing out of his mind. On his serve he could barely lose a point as Opelka became increasingly frustrated. He easily closed out the set with 6-3 achieving the best result of his career. He is extremely dangerous when he puts up a serving clinic like today. He hit 36 aces dropping only 6 points on his 1st serve. He also posted a 62-16 winner to error ratio.
