Nick Kyrgios is back in action at the World Tennis League this week albeit he has spent most of his recent months while being off injured fanning flames and being outspoken on social media. This can sometimes lead to him being taken out of context as he tried to explain.
Kyrgios was quoted as saying about Sinner and Alcaraz that they don't have the aura: "They're just kids, Alcaraz and Sinner don't have the aura".
But he said that he was taken out of context and went on to explain that the aura part was correct but that they will get there. As well as that it was merely in comparison to some of the leading names including Djokovic, Federer and Nadal.
He said that while they are yet to have that aura, they are merely kids and shouldn't be held in the same regard. As well as that they are still doing 'insane things' for a player of their age bracket.
"No context here at all lol. Media is in a bad spot that’s for sure. Compared to Novak , Federer, Nadal they are yet to have the aura that they have. They will for sure get there but realistically they are kids doing insane things. Do better. Potatoes," he said on X.
Kyrgios has courted criticism for his response to doping in particular and certainly won't be greeted fondly this week by Iga Swiatek at World Tennis League. But he has maintained throughout that it is merely an issue of doping as a whole instead of trying to belittle said players.
Denis Shapovalov also who has played a role on social media also said recently that he got backlash merely for airing a personal view as a whole instead of it being construed as a personal attack. But certainly a position Kyrgios will have to keep taking if out of context quotes prevail.
