Novak Djokovic seemed to be confused early on against Carlos Alcaraz as the Olympic Games crowd jeered the top seed. A polarising figure, Djokovic infamously took the crowd to task at Wimbledon.
He famously said that they were booing instead of saying Rune and hoped they had a 'goooood night'. This seemed to rile the fans up even more and came back to bite Djokovic who was heavily beaten by Alcaraz during the final.
But Djokovic is on the verge of the first set against Alcaraz in his ultimate mission to complete his set. He is yet to get a medal even at the Olympic Games and is in his fifth and final attempt. He had yet to even reach a final. Given his remarkable career, it is a shock stat and one that he will look to remedy.
Albeit without the support of the crowd who was heavily booed by the fans against the hugely popular Spaniard. With the score sat at 2-1 40-40 in the first set, Djokovic who screamed at his coaching box during his semi-final also wasn't best pleased with his performance.
He missed three chances to go 3-1 up and the mini pause saw fans boo him as they may have thought he was gesturing towards them. They started to get on his back for taking his time in being ready to restart the match. The jeers seemed to confuse and annoy Djokovic who gestured with his arm as to why they were booing.
"I'm not sure why there are boos. He was gesturing to his box, he's entitled to do that," BBC commentator Simon Reed said.
A player that despite his greatness has divided opinion and continues to do so here with fans seemingly picking their favourite and sticking to it. Alcaraz has since got back to send it to a tie-break. But which direction will it go in now?
