Serbia’s legendary tennis star,
Novak Djokovic, has achieved yet another milestone in his career. The 37-year-old is often regarded as the
greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the
Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles in his illustrious career.
Djokovic is currently playing at the Paris Olympics, where he booked his place in the final of the singles category after beating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. With that, the
Belgrade-born star unlocked yet another achievement in his career. He now becomes
only the third player in the history of tennis to play in the final of every
significant event after turning 30.
The achievement is even more memorable one
considering the fact the Djokovic recently suffered an injury during the French
Open which forced him to withdraw just before the start of the quarterfinal against
Norway’s Casper Ruud. Before Djokovic, former women’s world number one, Serena Williams and former world number one in the men’s singles category, Roger Federer also achieved similar feats in their illustrious careers. The current world number
two is set to face Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz in a mouthwatering final of the
competition on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who is already regarded as one of the best
players currently playing in the men’s singles category in tennis along with Italy’s
Jannik Sinner, booked his place in the final after beating Felix Auger
Aliassime of Canada in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-1. It will be
Djokovic’s second meeting with the young Spaniard this year. Earlier, in the
final at Wimbledon, it was the current world number three who came out on top
in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. Overall, it will be the seventh
meeting between the two. In the previous six meetings, both players emerged victorious
on three occasions.
