With the end of the Davis Cup Finals last weekend, the end of the season is upon us and it is now time to have your say with our poll for the ATP Player of the Year.
As expected two players lead the nominations in Jannik Sinner and
Carlos Alcaraz who have both been the standout names on the ATP Tour in 2024. But are there any other players who perhaps should have their time in the sun?
We go through the runners and riders for our poll in which you can vote below with the results revealed on Sunday 9 December.
Jannik Sinner - Blighted by doping case but still winning on court
Eight titles, two Grand Slams and the World No.1 spot. it is fair to say that Jannik Sinner is winning at life right now and after his emergence this time last year into being the top player he is now, he has evolved further up the food chain into the top spot.
He has also battled issues with the first of two of the 2024 World No.1's, other being Iga Swiatek in the WTA to test positive for a banned substance without no fault or negligence. He has fielded questions constantly on this issue and admitted that it has caused him sleepless nights.
But while that might be the case for such a harrowing experience, he used it as fuel to the fire. He also didn't escape headlines during the summer for his relationship with fellow tennis pro Anna Kalinskaya which has been mooted to be hitting turbulance.
Carlos Alcaraz - two Grand Slam titles for Spaniard but room to improve
It has been an interesting season for Carlos Alcaraz. On the surface, he has won two Grand Slam titles and added to his likely huge career haul. But also showed that he needs to improve in other facets.
As he did last season, Alcaraz struggled in the back end of the year albeit illness played its part and also he continues to struggle on faster courts. Paris Masters in particular and also the ATP Finals.
But it has been a year of lots of accolades which outweigh the poor parts for Alcaraz including becoming the first player in the Open Era to win his first three majors on three different surfaces, he became the youngest player to win a Grand Slam singles final on three different surfaces.
A better year than his end of year suspects..
He also became the youngest player to win the so-called Channel Slam (French Open and Wimbledon) and the second in the Open Era to win his first four major finals. He won a fifth Masters 1000 title and broke into top 10 masters won and the top 10 for highest career prize money.
Novak Djokovic - Olympic dream realised
Perhaps not the year that
Novak Djokovic realistically wanted and one that knowing the 24-time Grand Slam champion he will look to bounce back from with some real venom.
Starting the year with damning losses to Luca Nardi at Indian Wells as well as on clay to Alejandro Tabilo, Casper Ruud and Tomas Machac, it was a bit of a 2024 to forget.
He realised a dream though which hoists him into this ranking as he continued to be World No.1 leading the sport for a time and also won an Olympic gold medal for the first time. A dream that had finally been realised after many years of trying. He heads into the new season still with intrigue given his stature in the game and he will also add Andy Murray to the mix in 2025 as his coach. But does he warrant a Player of the Year vote?
Taylor Fritz - A career defining season
It has been the year of
Taylor Fritz outside of the leading names with the American truly becoming a force to trouble the main names. He started this year with a Quarter-Final at the Australian Open after which he won his first title of the season at Delray Beach Open. He also won the Eastbourne Open.
He reached the fourth round of the French Open for the first time and also reached his maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open. He followed that up by reaching the championship match at the ATP Finals.
Usurped at times in previous years by the rises of Tommy Paul for instance, he has firmly established himself as the top American.
Alexander Zverev - Masters title and French Open final
Alexander Zverev has also established himself further in his first season after injury that he has truly performed back towards his best.
He reached the French Open final in a semi redemption arc after losing to Rafael Nadal and suffering a horrific injury, he returned to end the Roland Garros career of the great Spaniard.
He also won the Paris Masters at the tail end of the season and ascended up to World No.2 and a steady World No.2 at that too. He has exchanged places with Carlos Alcaraz but down the stretch due to his prowess in ATP Masters tournaments which Alcaraz doesn't have will thrust him further ahead. This is despite Alcaraz winning two Grand Slam titles in 2024.
