Potential 2025 Australian Open draw could see mouth-watering matchups in opening rounds

With the 2024 ATP season in the books, tennis fans could be due for some star-studded matches at the 2025 Australian Open as players find themselves heading into the off-season with their rankings unlikely to chance much before the first Grand Slam of the season.

Defending champion Jannik Sinner will hold onto his top seeding position at the event, as he will remain at World No.1 in the ATP Rankings until at least the end of February next year. The year-ending top 10 has been confirmed and Sinner is followed by Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur and Grigor Dimitrov.

Should the ranking order remain unchanged at the start of the Australian Open, then Sinner could find himself in the same half of the draw as three former World No.1 players. Thus, the Italian could potentially face Alcaraz(3), Medvedev(5) or Djokovic(7) en route to the final.

Zverev, Fritz, Ruud and Rublev could headline the bottom half of the draw of the 2025 Australian Open draw. If the seedings hold, then Sinner could face Djokovic in the quarter-final and Alcaraz in the semi-final, before potentially taking on Zverev in the final.

However, the seedings for the Australian Open will be finalized on January 6, leaving room for a few changes in the top 10 before the tournament begins. Although the top three will remain unchanged, the rest of the top 10 could swap places based on individual results at the United Cup, Hong Kong Open and Brisbane International.
